Supply List:
We encourage you to use what you have and substitute where possible. These are the specific supplies used by Wyanne during the lesson:
- Printmakers baren
- Foil
- Paper towels
- Beeswax block – these can be found at craft stores in the candlemaking section
- Grill thermometer
Encaustic Wax Monoprint
- Professional Hot Box
- Kitakata Paper Natural
- Encaustic Wax in various colors. There are several suppliers of wax. It can be purchased at many fine art supply stores, such as Dick Blick. Below are some brands to look for.
- R&F
- Enkaustikos
- Two small independent brands with great waxes are:
- Evans Encaustics – makes waxes just for monoprinting. They are the best!
- Miles Conrad
The crayon shaped encaustic wax can be found at Kama Pigments.
Crayon Wax Monoprint
- Various crayons (do not use oil pastels because they smear badly)
- Presto Family Pancake Griddle or any other electric griddle for encaustic
- Kitakata Paper Natural
Embellishing the Monoprint
You can use just about anything! Here’s what I used in the videos:
- Posca Paint Pen
- Gel Pen
- Acrylic Gouache
- Watercolors (work on the paper around the wax)
- Acrylic paint
- Pencil
